Mixed fortunes befell our three teams on the opening weekend of the league season.
New Third XI captain Jonnie Almond got off to a dream start with a convincing nine wicket win away to Fleet 2. The opposition batted first and were restricted to 161 for 9, with the skipper Almond impressing with 4-17. With the welcome return of Boparai's and Sahdra's to FRCC, Royal's batting always looked strong. Indeed, they made easy work of the run chase, thanks to 101* from Jatinder Boparai and 28* from Jagbir Sahdra. The Third XI are "Home" to Maidenhead and Bray 3 next weekend, who themselves were well beaten by Theale and Tilehurst 2 this week. Note that the game is being played at Maidenhead and Bray due to Farnham Park not being available.
The First XI were comprehensively beaten at home by Aston Rowant in the first of the new 50 over format games. Batting first, Royal only managed 152 all out from 48 overs. Aston Rowant easily knocked off the target for the loss of just one wicket in 43 overs. The First XI are away to Oxford next weekend, who themselves won strongly at Cove this week.
The Second XI, away to Wycombe Dragons 1, also struggled. After a tricky start, Wycombe Dragons regrouped to post a commanding 233 for 5 from 50 overs. Kamran Nawaz and Ben Pulsford were the pick of the bowlers on an otherwise poor day for Royal in the field. Royal had struggled to 89 for 5 from 22 overs, when fortunately the weather intervened and caused the game to be abandoned. The Second XI are home to Burnham 3 next week, who themselves had a convincing win over Maidenhead and Bray 2 this week.

We urgently require volunteers and helpers for the colts teams this year.
We need additional support from parents / anybody wishing to help with the various age groups to manage the teams and to help get players to and from games. If we do not receive additional help, there is a high probability that we will not be able to fulfil the fixture requirements.
If you can assist in any way, please contact our Head of Cricket, Andy Burgess on 07770 372230 or by email to headofcricket@frcc.info.
