Despite losing the penultimate match of the league season, Royal secured enough points to confirm top spot in the Home Counties West and will return to full Premier League cricket in 2009. Hopefully our stay in the top league will last longer than the single-season 2007 experience as the club looks to build on its successes of 2008 and create a stronger squad at all levels within the club for 2009.
We have been informed of the sad death of Duncan Stewart over the Bank holiday weekend. Details of Duncan's remembrance service will be posted here and at the clubhouse.
Farnham Royal have been asked to host the Bucks Cup final on Saturday 13th September. We are honoured to be asked and will ensure that the ground and facilities on the day meet the standard required for such a prestigious event. Details of the start time and finalists will follow this weekend's semi-finals.
Royal continued their selection policy over the weekend of grabbing any and all available players and on Sunday the keenest of them all made his adult debut. After a dynamite fiedling display, young Lewis/squirt/little carrot mamanged to secure two not out to give himself an infinite batting average for the season. The club appears in good hands when players under the age of 12 are so keen to get involved and parents are willing and able to give their support.
It is with great regret that the club informs you of the death of Colin Pipe on 1st August. 'The Boss' had been unwell for many months, but as might be expected, was fighting well until very recently. Colin skippered the third XI for many years, fostering a large percentage of today's established players in his side. Colin's funeral service will be on Monday 11th August at 11am at Slough Crematorium and afterwards at Slough Bowls Club. Family flowers only please - donations can be made via the club or Sargents to The Eden Unit, Wexham Park Hospital.
The 2nd XI scored their second victory of the season to continue the long climb towards safety in TVL 2a. Batting first on an excellent Church Rd wicket, Royal totalled 250 with skipper Human van As and Dahron Pitt making half-centuries. In reply, Burnham could muster only 184 with Indy Boparai taking four wickets. Royal are still in 10th place, but are inching ever closer to safety.
Just a short note of thanks from Lorna Pulsford to those who sponsored her in her 'race for life' for Cancer Research. With Slough's race being cancelled this year, Lorna ran the equivalent distance around FRCC on Sunday 13th July and has raised £150 for her favourite charity.
The second XI are traditionally stronger in the second half of the seson and finally chalked up a win in Div 2A in match 10 on Saturday. A solid opening partnership of 85 between Pulsford (38) and Van As (46) laid the foundations for a score of 181 on a tricky wicket. Later three bowlers combined to dismiss Chiswick for just 96 with Gurveer Singh taking 'bowler of the day' for his analysis of 20-8-39-4.
Don't forget that this Saturday night at the club, we have a BBQ and Kangaroo Boxing, organised by the Second XI for your enjoyment!
For the second time in as many weeks, the First XI had a game whose result was decided by a single run. Batting first, Finchampstead set a target of 188, with the highlight for Royal being figures of 3 for 32 from Sharif Naseri. In reply, Royal looked well set thanks largely to an innings of 76 from Javed Khan. However, Royal's run chase faltered at the death and fell short with just a single run still required to tie the scores. Royal are now third in the Home Counties Premier League Division 2 West.
The Second XI hit rock bottom against Windsor. Royal were dismissed for a dismal 119. Where last week's performance in the field brought some hope to a demoralised side, this week's performance was desperate. Windsor knocked off the runs in double quick time with little fight from the Royal bowlers and fielders alike. Royal are firmly stuck to the bottom of Thames Valley League Division 2a and must turn their season around soon.
The Third XI did well in the field to dismiss Maidenhead and Bray 3rd XI for 188 in 42 overs. However, their batting performance left something to be desired, with the only significant contribution from Andy Watson (32) as Royal fell well short, dismissed for 117.
The First XI strengthened their lead of the Home Counties Premier League Division 2 West with victory at home to Thatcham Town. In a low scoring game, Royal made a total of 151, but in reply Thatcham managed only 131 with Krishmar Santokie and Sahrif Naseri taking four wickets each. Royal travel to Wokingham next week.
The Second XI were unlucky not to secure a first victory away at Beaconsfield 2. Batting first on a damp wicket with a slow outfield, Royal made a just below par score of 142. An excellent performance in the field reduced Beaconsfield to 8 down, who promptly shut up shop, making only 114 in reply. The resultant points return was disappointing for Royal and leaves them bottom of Thames Valley League Division 2a.
The Third XI were comprehensively beaten away at Windsor 3. Royal made only 137 for 10, which Windsor 3 quickly knocked off in only 34 overs for the loss of 3 wickets. The Third XI fall to eighth in Thames Valley League Division 7b.
An extraordinary unbeaten 183 from Sharif Naseri propelled Farnham Royal First XI to 343 for 6 against Burnham on Saturday. Burnham's reply did not manage to keep pace with the required rate and the match petered out into a draw with Burnham finishing on 207 for 6. The First XI are top of the Home Counties Premier League Division 2 West after three games.
The Second XI were less successful against Burnham 2. Batting first, Royal again struggled to set a challenging target and only an innings of 60 by Abbas Khan prevented a walkover. Royal were dismissed for 180. Burnham reached the target for the loss of just 4 wickets. The Second XI are second from bottom in Thames Valley League Division 2a.
The Third XI recorded their first win of the season away to Slough 5. Royal dismissed Slough for 200 with Aseem Dahani's figures of 6-46 the highlight. Royal were initially in trouble in reply but, thanks to Ahmed Choudhary (92*) and the unstoppable Baptiste-Louro (61*), recovered to reach the target for the loss of just 4 wickets. The Third XI are sixth in Thames Valley League Division 7b.
It will come as no surprise to club members that Farnham Royal Cricket Club scored perfect sixes in the Home Counties Premier League Division 1 last season for catering and hospitality. Congratulations to Mel Ive and her team for an awesome performance!
Congratulations to this week's winning player sponsors! Ian Pulsford scored 80 for the Second XI winning the best batting performance and brightening up an otherwise miserable day for his sponsor, Mark Perkins. Naveed Zaigham took 7 for 37 for the First XI winning the best bowling performance. However, Naveed is currently unsponsored. Players still available for sponsorship can be found by clicking Players. The First XI recorded a second successive victory in the Home Counties Premier League Division Two West with a win away at Basingstoke and North Hants. Royal batted first and struggled to 183 all out from 46 overs. Several players got starts but none went on to a significant total; Naseri (35) and Clayson (31) were the highlights. The match turned however on the bowling performance of Naveed Zaigham, whose 7-37 resulted in Basingstoke and North Hants being dismissed for 152.
The Second XI lost to the same opposition in the Thames Valley League Division 2a. Royal batted first and again had a shaky start. However, Pulsford (80) rode his luck and with support from Van As (34) and the excellent Gillham (50), Royal recovered to 213 from their 47 overs (reduced due to rain). Royal were also disappointing in the field and missed opportunities cost them dearly as Vinn made 105* not out and guided Basingstoke and North Hants to a comfortable victory for the loss of just 3 wickets. There is much room for improvement next week when Royal face Burnham 2.
The Third XI took on Harefield 3 at home in Thames Valley League Division 7b. Royal batted first and were again in trouble with the loss of 5 early wickets. Baptiste-Louro to the rescue for the second week running with 75 not out. With Akram adding 28 for the tail, Royal's 179 all out was a lot better than it might have been. Harefield made the target for the loss of 7 wickets, despite the best efforts of Choudhary who was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets.

The First XI started their campaign in the second tier of the Home Counties Premier League with victory at home to Buckingham Town. Buckingham Town did well to amass 251 all out after a shaky start (Santokie 6-83). Royal's reply was comfortable with significant contributions from Dan Simpson (72), Ollie Clayson (57*) and Krishmar Santokie (53). The Second XI had a disappointing start losing to Chiswick and Latymer. Royal were reeling at 34 for 4 and despite recovering to 164 all out, had not amassed enough runs to make a serious challenge of it. Despite working hard to reduce Chiswick and Latymer to 6 down, a few too many loose balls released the pressure, allowing them to reach the target with no further loss. The Third XI, depleted in strength due to Steve Pitchford's wedding, also lost away to Chesham 3. Chesham 3 were dismissed in 43 overs for 226; Gerry Sahdra (5-54) the pick of the bowling. However Royal's reply started badly and it was only a wagging tail from Miguel Baptiste-Louro (56) and Matthew Shave (54) that allowed Royal to gain respectability. Royal were finally dismissed for 172.
Farnham Royal First XI lost their Cockburn Cup fixture at home to Osterley. Batting first, they made just 178 -8; Second XI skipper, Ian Bucknell's 55 the pick of the batting. Osterley reached the target for the loss of 7 wickets; Dahron Pitt (2-19) the highlight in the bowling analysis.
Farnham Royal First XI entertained Wembley on Saturday, with a reduced strength team due to the Cockburn cup fixture on Sunday. Wembley batted first and were kept to 178 for 7; Gillham 3-37, the pick of the bowling. Royal struggled in reply, with several batsmen getting starts, but no-one making an impact. The game was lost with Royal making only 126 all out. Farnham Royal Second XI secured their first victory of the season in their pre-season friendly away at Marlow. Royal batted first and despite a promising start, found it difficult to get the ball away on a very slow wicket and gave up their wickets far too easily. Royal ended with a very disappointing final total of 158-9 (Nicholas 26, Perkins 22, Hanks 21). Boparai (3-24) bowled a great opening spell of prodigious swing bowling and with the assistance of Baptiste- Louro (1-20), reduced Marlow to 18-4. Following a brief recovery, an unexpected hat-trick from Burgess (3-21) left Marlow on 67-9. Nicholas ended the game with Marlow on 104, following a dogged last wicket stand.

Farnham Royal First XI provided another 'interesting' batting performance at Church Road on Saturday, with only three players reaching 20. Royal were dismissed by Oxford for 120, who proceeded to knock them off for the loss of just 3 wickets. Best to get these results out of the way in the pre-season friendlies... The Second XI had a good work out in their pre-season friendly away at Bledlow Ridge. Gillham's 71 not out was the highlight as Royal posted a total of 172 for 9. Bledlow Ridge looked shaky at 24 for 4 (Satar, 1-37 and Boparai 3-13). However, dropped catches in the middle of the innings let Bledlow Ridge off the hook and despite impressive spells from young spin twins, Singh (9 overs, 2-27) and Chedha (8 overs, 1-26), Bledlow Ridge reached the target with 2 overs to spare. Sunday's fixture at Egham was cancelled due to the inclement weather.
The First XI visited Radlett on the opening day of the season and batted first. A promising early start by Miller (73) and Simpson (27) rapidly degenerated into misery with only Aseem Dahani contributing another double figure score. Royal were dismissed for 133. Radlett made short work of knocking these off for the loss of 4 wickets - Pitt (2-25) being the only highlight for Royal. First XI vice captain Warren Miller is out for up to 7 weeks following a broken thumb whilst fielding. We wish him all the best in his recovery.
The season opener for the Second XI was played out in cold, wet and windy conditions at Church Road. Royal's target of 167 for 7 (Pulsford 50, Perkins 47 and Bucknell 38*) looked competitive. Radlett's new import, Cameron (56) thought otherwise and proceeded to batter first Boparai, then Jacobs to distant corners of Church Road. Despite a brief flurry of wickets from Jacobs (2-38) and the excellent Sahdra (2-28) , Crocker (46) and Fielden (26) settled in to carry Radlett to a comfortable victory.
